Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our manufacturing capabilities

Our standard machining tolerances are ±0.001″ for most operations. For critical features, we routinely achieve ±0.0005″ and can hold ±0.0002″ with grinding or specialized processes. Specific tolerances depend on material, part geometry, and feature size. Contact us to discuss your tolerance requirements.

Metals: Aluminum alloys (2024, 6061, 7075), stainless steels (303, 304, 316, 17-4PH), carbon and alloy steels, titanium (Grade 2, Grade 5), Inconel, Hastelloy, brass, bronze.

Plastics: PEEK, Ultem (PEI), Delrin (Acetal), Nylon, PTFE (Teflon), Polycarbonate.

If you have a specific material requirement, contact us—we work with exotic alloys and specialty materials on request.

Yes. We provide complete First Article Inspection (FAI) reports for all production runs. Our FAI documentation includes dimensional verification of all print specifications, material certifications, and any special process documentation required. We can also provide AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports for aerospace customers.

Precision Manufacturing is ISO 9001 certified, demonstrating our commitment to quality management systems. We align with AS9100 requirements for aerospace work. All documentation, including material certifications, inspection reports, and Certificates of Conformance, is available upon request.

Yes, we offer reverse engineering services. If you have a sample part but no print, we can measure the part using CMM inspection, create CAD models, and produce working drawings for your approval before manufacturing. This is particularly useful for MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) applications and replacement parts for obsolete components.

Lead times vary based on part complexity, material availability, and current shop load:

  • Prototypes (1-10 pcs): 1-2 weeks
  • Small batches (10-100 pcs): 2-4 weeks
  • Production runs (100+ pcs): 4-6 weeks

Expedited service is available for urgent requirements. Contact us to discuss your timeline.

Absolutely. Our engineering team provides DFM analysis to optimize your parts for CNC machining. We can suggest design modifications that reduce costs, improve manufacturability, and maintain or enhance functionality. This service is complimentary with quotations and helps ensure your parts are as cost-effective as possible to produce.

Preferred formats: STEP (.stp, .step), IGES (.igs, .iges), Parasolid (.x_t, .x_b), PDF drawings with dimensions

Also accepted: DWG, DXF, SolidWorks (.sldprt), Inventor (.ipt), CATIA

If you only have PDF prints or physical samples, we can still quote your project. Contact us to discuss your specific file format.

Industry-Specific Guidance

Manufacturing insights tailored to your industry

Aerospace Compliance & Standards

Understanding AS9100 requirements, material traceability, and aerospace-grade quality documentation.

  • AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements
  • Material certification and traceability
  • DFARS compliance for defense work
  • NADCAP special processes (when required)

Common Aerospace Materials

  • Aluminum 2024-T3, 7075-T6 (structural)
  • Titanium 6Al-4V (high-strength, lightweight)
  • 17-4PH stainless (corrosion resistant)
  • Inconel 718 (high-temperature)

Oil & Gas Material Selection

Choosing the right materials for corrosive environments, high-pressure applications, and valve components.

  • 316 Stainless for corrosive media resistance
  • Inconel for high-temperature applications
  • Hastelloy for extreme chemical environments
  • Duplex stainless for strength + corrosion resistance

Typical Oil & Gas Components

  • Valve stems, seats, cages, plugs
  • Manifolds and distribution blocks
  • Pump components and housings
  • Actuator mounts and brackets
  • Instrumentation housings

Medical Device Manufacturing Considerations

Important: Precision Manufacturing manufactures medical device equipment and housings (non-implantable Class I/II devices). We do not manufacture Class III implantable devices.

  • Biocompatible materials (when required)
  • Surface finish requirements for cleanability
  • Traceability and documentation standards
  • FDA QSR awareness (21 CFR Part 820)
Non-Implantable Only

We manufacture equipment frames, housings, and diagnostic system components—not implantable devices or Class III medical devices.

Medical Equipment Parts We Produce

  • Diagnostic equipment housings
  • Lab instrument frames and brackets
  • Medical device enclosures
  • Surgical tool handles (non-implant)

Industrial OEM Manufacturing

Supporting automation, robotics, and machine tool OEMs with precision components and assemblies.

  • Design for high-volume production efficiency
  • Tight tolerances for automation assembly
  • Material selection for wear resistance
  • Prototype to production scaling

Industrial Applications

  • Machine tool frames and gantries
  • Robotic end-effector mounts
  • Automation brackets and fixtures
  • Conveyor components and guides
  • Precision assemblies
  • Test and inspection fixtures
